How like the rising sun was I before
I first cast off Thy endless love forevermore?
My glory brought me naught but greater falls
and cost me You, my Lord, and Paradise′s halls

My cursed ambition like a fire
consumed what good You placed in me
To serve You more I could not bear,
so I became Your enemy

All hope of recompense flies from my grasp,
for even if I turn from this infernal path
A ruler's pride still burns within my veins;
submission more, I could not bear,
in praising You or iron chains!

for all of Heaven′s ecstasies
And pride and power as vast as mine
cannot submit to slavery
So farewell hope, and farewell fear,
destroy now what my Lord holds dear
Evil come, consume me now;
The Adversary I will be!
