Utopia Songtext

Back in the day
Now it′s easy to say
96 when I started chasing chicks
The Internet fairly new and discovering what to do
Chatting with strangers on AIM Messenger
Spitting game to multiple names
Getting asked A.S.L
Learning what to say and not knowing we were all getting played
I acted like a fool but wished
Making up a life that didn't exist
Playing tricks on multiple chicks
With no aim I kept repeating the shit that into my head came
Creating a fallacy to gain an emotion
Needing someone to care
Yet there was no one there
Had to rely on dial-up
A single picture taking an age to share
Never sure if you were talking to a fat white dude with no hair
Chat rooms were the main thing
Jumping to different locations
Scoping out the room from the wings
Everyone chatting a bit
Swarming the girls like flies around shit
Hitting up everything perceived to be a chick
Copy and pasting the same lines
Hoping the person on the other side didn′t have a dick
Getting cut off with incoming calls
Waiting forever to reconnect staring at the walls
Not many problems as teens in 96
Had the time to look out the window and dream nightly of random chicks

Hearts like modems
Connecting slow
We didn't need much
We didn't need to know
Speaking on the phone
A temporary utopia
Phones not capable of much
My tiny GSM Nokia

Ripping "All Eyes on Me" from cd to mp3
Tupac at the height of his fame
Nodding my head and rapping along unashamed to ′Ambitionz Az a Ridah′
Smoking in the sun
Sipping apple cider
Thoughts in my mind running free
Making me want to write my own poetry
On my arm in an act of devotion I got the outlaw tattoo
Shaved my head bald and ditched the shampoo
Being skinny I considered Thug Life on my belly
Instead on my arm got the name Makaveli
Ears pierced and nose too
Wanting to follow in his shoes
More concerned with looks
Writing long rhymes like books
Keeping well groomed
Hoping some door would open soon
Childish poems fit for the age
Slowly getting consumed with rage
Inspiration thin on the ground
I didn't even have my own sound
Trawling the internet not for fame but to play games
More people within reach
A new base for knowledge to teach
Showcasing words from spontaneous thoughts
Time slow wasting with words of extraneous source

Hearts like modems
Connecting slow
We didn′t need much
We didn't need to know
Speaking on the phone
A temporary utopia
Phones not capable of much
My tiny GSM Nokia

Being overly dramatic
Yet my sentences were grammatic
Impressed minds with words and musing
Until some became victim of my abusing
Hiding behind the screen
Projecting an image of someone I had never been
Words calm and soft was the real me
But that was something they would never see
Tattoos
Piercings
Manipulated facial hair
Thin and toned
The image of me I had to uphold
A new world at hand
Talking with Californian Latinas and Filipinas
Gaining friends and momentum
At the worlds end talking out of my rectum
The mood was always good and fun
Hot like a jalapeno in the summer sun
Confusing some with words and my repertoire
Cruising with my brother in his car
Listening to an eclectic mix
Music loud making some suffer epileptic fits
Smoking weed getting shit faced
Not accustomed to the taste
Breaking out in fits of laughter
Not liking the sensations after

Hearts like modems
Connecting slow
We didn′t need much
We didn't need to know
Speaking on the phone
A temporary utopia
Phones not capable of much
My tiny GSM Nokia

Maturity to a degree arrived with the millennium
Changed some of my ways and the things I did say
My personal requiem
Moved forward leaving girls in my wake
Accepting I did make many a mistake
Taking the piss on Pixel
Starting arguments to waste time
Rating a nickel instead of a dime
Getting sleazy with the girl named please me
Didn′t pay it much mind
But 5 years later it proved to be my biggest crime
So now let's recollect
Though I fear not all my memories will be correct
Life was good and we had less to fear
Though technology could never compare
Listening on my Walkman at night
Eyes toward the window illuminated by street light
Having to walk to the store to get smokes
Newspapers still delivered to your door
Elderly suffering heat strokes
We all miss the days
Hedgerows and meadows
Sitting on the grass
Not having to worry about piss puddles and broken glass
People using common sense
When using free speech wasn't an offence
When things were priced correctly
We didn′t have to count our coins circumspectly
We knew each other′s names
We knew from where we came
Yearly we had a different crush
Getting teased by friends you would always blush
We had brothers who acted like Casanova
With his girlfriend on the sofa

Hearts like modems
Connecting slow
We didn't need much
We didn′t need to know
Speaking on the phone
A temporary utopia
Phones not capable of much
My tiny GSM Nokia

Those days were so unique
We had limited ways to speak
8 hours apart
Our phones were not smart
Using international calling cards
With such a different accent
Talks were enthralling with no safeguards
No indecisions
No sitting on the fence
Aware of our positions
When we awoke
Looking eagerly for messages
Thinking we had been forgotten
Until we spoke
Conveying affection in sentences
Hearts fluttered
At the sound of voices
Words uttered
Secure in our choices
Fleeting moments they seemed
Because meeting was always a dream
So great was the gap
You drown your sorrow
Listening to Roger and Zapp
Things getting out of hand
Reciting "I wanna be your man"

Hearts like modems
Connecting slow
We didn't need much
We didn′t need to know
Speaking on the phone
A temporary utopia
Phones not capable of much
My tiny GSM Nokia
