Malcolm X Songtext

Malcolm X Songtext
He did arrive in nineteen twenty-five
May nineteenth the day
Born in Omaha at home and not a hospital
To a Baptist preacher under the name little
Didn′t step into his father's shoes
Not long until to Michigan they moved
His dreams are not those for negros and against the rules
Encouragement didn′t come from the teacher turned destroyer
Nearly having a seizure at hearing he wanted to be a lawyer
Father passed from this world
Siblings in foster care
No way to prosper here
No academic future foreseen and in ruins his dream
From high school he drops out
Finally the bus made it to Boston so now it's time to hop out
Shorty the name of his best friend at the time Introduced him to drugs, drink, gambling and crime
Older now walking around town
Needing a job quickly
No time to find something better
Can't be picky so he takes a job in Harlem as a waiter
Suffering abuse forcing him to quit
It′s time to go on to illegal ventures where the wage isn′t so shit
A hustler and a sharpy
Now working for West Indian Archie
Starts to drug deal
To pay for his troubles he had to sell everything that he did steal
Trying to stay out of the black rain
Got caught up in the struggle and addicted to cocaine
In the game of life he participated
Not knowing for ten years he'd get incarcerated
They tried to bury what he became
But history still sings his name
A martyr in the fight
His legacy a beacon
Turning darkness into light
Late in nineteen forty-eight
Wrote to Elijah Muhammed
After visits from his brother Reginald
Conversations candid and somewhat confessional
Learning more about a movement named the Nation of Islam
Gaining knowledge day by day he learned to remain calm
No longer bothered by taunts by the chaplain to the name Satan
With historical and geographic facts
He did correct the lies that were blatant
Not sure of the date but in nineteen fifty-two
Twenty-seven years old now up for parole
Preaching the ways of the nation
He waits to meet Elijah with patience
Introduced Casius Clay to the nation
Mentored Louis and Wallace
But truth and wisdom slowly did come
Enlightenment came beyond any the false prophet could claim
Allah lighting his path and his heart being unsealed
Elijah′s adultery finally being revealed
Disillusioned with the lies and suspected FBI ties
Censured for speaking the truth and envious of his rise
Malcolm left the nation to pursue truth and a new groups creation
March nineteen sixty-four on the nation he closed the door
Now April
With a small thought lingering of a vendetta
Aided by his sister Ella he went on a pilgrimage to Mecca
She was saving to go herself
Nearly all night she didn't shout it
Instead sat in her living room
And she said there was no question about it
Upon his travel the whole truth was revealed
Blonde haired and blue-eyed men sharing their meals
Drinking from the same cup without any syndromes
Sharing food with people of all skin tones
On his return he forms his own group with no ambiguity
They tried to bury what he became
But history still sings his name
A martyr in the fight
His legacy a beacon
Turning darkness into light
February 21st, nineteen sixty-five
At the Audubon ballroom
Brother Benjamin X on the stand giving his speech
The air full of cologne and perfume
Not in sight the people Malcolm did invite
Disappointed
But not worried
He stood with Allah by his side
Hearing the applause from the crowd
Is it the introduction they cheer so loud
Addressing the expectant audience ′As'Salam Alaikum′
Then suddenly eight rows in front a scuffle he did see and hear
A disturbance in the peace though it's not very clear
'Take your hand out of my pocket!′
Now everybody′s turning in their chairs
'Hold it, Hold it, Don′t get excited, Let's cool it brothers′
Malcolm said loud
Clear and crisply
Distracted by all the commotion
Didn't see the guys walking up
Finally after all the threats
He will get time for an eternity to rest in peace
While those coward bastards unload and pump pellets in to his chest
Now laying there bloody and gasping for breath
Even in death there is no defeat
No need to fight harder for Malcolm didn′t die he left us a martyr
Shaheed is the correct word
Now saved from further pain and hurt
May he rest in peace and reach paradise
They tried to bury what he became
But history still sings his name
A martyr in the fight
His legacy a beacon
Turning darkness into light
More than sixty years have passed
Yet Malcolm's legacy still stands steadfast
A nation built to blind the youth
Feeding lies and obscuring truth
But in Islam, no lines divide
No race, no colour, side by side
Brotherhood binds the faithful tight
Except those who betray the light
Apostates and agents sowing strife
Serving systems that steal our life
The Bureau's shadow creeps within
But truth is louder than their spin
Let El-Hajj Malik′s voice arise
A beacon cutting through the lies
An emissary with a burning plea
"By any means necessary"
They tried to bury what he became
But history still sings his name
A martyr in the fight
His legacy a beacon
Turning darkness into light
