Each moment you embrace
Each difficult situation you face
Not yet at your peak
The summit still in your stride
For all you have achieved smile brimming with pride
A moment to sit and look back
All you have gained and all that you lack
From the stage of a teen
In a short age all you have done and seen
Such a mature head on your shoulders
Who would believe you are twenty-three
I would think you much older
Now you hold a master′s degree
Akin to wine
You truly do get finer with time
Just to know you knew the direction in which you had to go
Influenced by your teacher
You placed yourself in a position to be a mentor
And that's your distinctive feature
Of knowledge and facts I meant


You worked hard to achieve and that′s no accident
Blessed we find you
You move forward with the Sun shining behind you
Lighting up your path as you move fast away from your adolescent past
Now self-reliant
I remember the days you were stressed but ever so defiant
Never letting your workload get you down
It all paid off
Look at you now
A success
I would never have imagined any less
Nothing but a mere detail in your fight
Having to work in retail to set yourself up right
Dealing with sweaty kids
Language a barrier for some
Loved by all like an older sister or bubble gum
Appreciation for your skill
The determination and will
Each child cherishing your presence
Throwing parties for you with kind words as presents

Another year that has gone
Distant memories to look back upon
Fog descends on moments and faces of your friends
Names evade the tongue
And you forget those you knew when you were young

Another year under your belt
Easily playing the cards that you were dealt
May the days ahead be ever more kind
May your wisdom grow and expand your mind
Now it is true
I messed up when you turned twenty-two
Not about me this is only for you
So revel in the occasion the way that you do

12 months the time between the last and this current verse
The things I would say to you
The things I still dream and plan to do
You turn twenty-four
And yet my footsteps lead me ever farther from your door
Maturity you possess and to think you have achieved so much
Coupled with stress
The thought of your words and intellect still stun me
Ever closer it comes and yet I miss another one
The date remains fervently in my mind now I have the burden of time
I am gathering my gifts in exchange for your kiss
Amass the favour so when I deliver I get to savour your smile
It has been absent for such a long time
Your intellect grows and the maturity outwardly shows
You change with age and gain much wisdom in each stage
You alter yet in your stride you never falter

Your hair as it once was in a past year
Long and dark
I still see you in front of me as we sat in Wiley Park
I was ill equipped
Left my mind and my sanity behind
All hail the reluctance of you to fail
No procrastinating as you take hold of your career
So now you embrace another year
Winter coming to an end
And your path ahead not clear as you come to a bend
No foresight for any of us but I know for you success is a must
Upon me there is much to pin for blame
But recall now my name as I take you down memory lane
This gift I give to you in order to cover the miles
