I′ve been working on my music now for ten years
But my buddy Josh turned it into my career
We were thirteen when we made our first band
And from that moment on I knew I had to take a chance
But when the band broke up me and Josh stayed friends
And knew that we'd be with each other til the end
And we were but it came too soon
Cause Josh lost his fight with depression at 22
I already knew he was struggling it had been some time
Since his family told me details ′bout his life
So I wasn't surprised when I heard the news
But you never think this sort of thing will happen to you
And now it's been a year and there hasn′t been a word written
Only tears cause I wish that it had went different
And I fear no one will remember his name
But I ain′t gonna let him fade away

I was shocked when I found out but it made sense
Cause things were always tense back home with the ′rents
And his meds didn′t help he never felt like belonged
But even still I can't believe my friend is really gone
Cause I wrote my first song cause of him
He said that drummers couldn′t write
So I taught myself piano on a whim
And the thing is we fought so much but we'd recover
That′s why I never wonder what its like to have a brother
I wish I could of helped him but every single time
When I asked him "how you holding up" he told me his was fine
And I took him at his word we were so competitive
So the stories that he told me were highly edited
He's the Bennington to my Shinoda can′t believe he won't get older
Only thing that gives me closure is his pain is finally over
Now I shoulder his legacy with pride
I just wish that I could have said goodbye
