Silver Harmonica Songtext

Silver Harmonica Songtext
When I was a boy I′d spend six weeks each summer
At Grandma and Granddaddy's farm
With magical mornings in dew-covered meadows
And rainy days out in the barn
Molasses and biscuits with breakfast each morning
Feeding the chicks and the ducks
Walks to the spring on my grandfather′s shoulders
And riding around in his truck
And as evening gave way to the starry night
By the light of the summertime moon
He'd take out a silver harmonica
And play us a couple of tunes
He'd play "Peace in the Valley" and "I′ll Fly Away"
And I′d drift off so happy in dreams as he'd play
For it shined like a beacon and it rang like a bell
That silver harmonica that I loved so well
One evening I asked him when we were at supper
How much was that instrument worth?
He said, "Son, it′s the key to the treasure of kings
The most valuable thing on this earth
For the troubles and struggles you'll labor through
In the course of an everyday life
Make you long for a peaceful and quiet way
To welcome the coming of night"
He′d play "Peace in the Valley" and "I'll Fly Away"
And I′d drift off so happy in dreams as he'd play
For it shined like a beacon and it rang like a bell
That silver harmonica that I loved so well
Time flies away and loved ones depart
But the memories stay down deep in your heart
And now when the world gets to be too unbearable
And I get too weary to try
I sit on the steps as the twilight surrounds me
And watch for the moon in the sky
And as evening gives way to the starry night
By the light of the man in the moon
I take out this silver harmonica
And play me a couple of tunes
I play "Peace in the Valley" and "I'll Fly Away"
And I drift off so happy in dreams as I play
For it shines like a beacon and it rings like a bell
This silver harmonica that I loved so well
This old silver harmonica that I loved so well
At Grandma and Granddaddy's farm
With magical mornings in dew-covered meadows
