Maple Ridge Songtext

Maple Ridge Songtext
Last night I thanked the Lord
′Cause when I got out of work all my stuff was still in the car
And it started up when I turned the key
So I drove home to my beautiful babies
And my dear sleeping wife opened up her eyes and said to me
Welcome home, baby
Oh It's been so long
Welcome home, lover
Won′t you sing to me a lullabye song
She said her mother had called and was good
And "Oh, could you bring in some wood
And there's a couple few more beers in the door of the fridge."
I've got a fine, fine life
And the moon is shining bright
On this maple ridge
We got syrup in the springtime
And when the cold wind blows we got neighbors
With children and saunas and fuzzy warm dogs
And a story for to steal the time away
And when we get all sleepy-eyed we say
"We′ve really got to go. We got a long walk through the snow
To our chalet."
And our chalet says, "Welcome home, people
Take off your boots and come inside
Welcome home, children
These sheets may be cold but Lord knows they′re dry
We make a fire and some tea
And don't forget to brush your teeth
We put the kids in bed and sit and play some cribbage
Outside the trees are snapping in the cold
And the moon has got a hold on this maple ridge
I love it here on the outskirts of a ghost town
That lived and died by the falling of the great-grandmother pines
And I′m struck with fear by the mining men of moneytown
Who tell me a few billion bucks is worth more than a land divine
If I ever get exhausted put me in your car and take me back there
Where a trout springs from a pool
And the old crow wants to know what you're doing down there
I wanna feel the bark and the bite
I wanna see in the dark of the night
I wanna walk an unknown trail across an old log bridge
May the powers that be always save a place for me on this maple ridge
′Cause when I got out of work all my stuff was still in the car
And it started up when I turned the key
So I drove home to my beautiful babies
And my dear sleeping wife opened up her eyes and said to me
