Rooted shallow in the cold northeastern ground
Blooming on the hillside when the summer′s just begun
A vivid image of a tranquil mountain sound

And your fragrance fills the air like a sweet and gentle breeze
Whispering your secrets to sugar maple leaves
And the blushing in your cheeks as you lay there in bed
Pink as a sunset melting over jagged peaks above my head

Rhododendrons lead me home where the wolves and whitetail roam
Where Sundays spent at church and supper time's at home
Rhododendrons lead me home where I feel much less alone
Remind me of nostalgia in a place that I′d once known

And in the summer months, I would wander through your maze
Lost within your petals, mesmerized by your grace
Each blossom telling stories of a love that never dies
A symphony of colors dancing beneath the open skies


And now it's late September and you began to lose your color
I can't even begin to think of a beauty in another
So when the autumn comes and your vibrance fades away
