Green Mountain Songtext

My father built this table
With pews called from the church
Where my daughter, she was married
On July the 31st
The church still is standing
Half a mile down the street
Listen to the bells
Please don′t look at me
Hear the ghosts in the choir
Please don't look at me

Chose this mountain slowly
It was summer of ′53
Dug a hole for the foundation
And painted the walls bright green
My boy's look down the hill
Now six feet underneath
There's a gravestone and a rosebush
Please don′t look at me

Look at the lake
Look at the trees
Look at the clouds
As they sway on the breeze
Look at the sky
Look at the reeds
Look at the bottle
Please don′t look at me

My best friend was my brother
When he went to fight the war
He left me all alone here
That was 1964
I still got all his letters
And his medals are under glass
Not a day goes by that I don't hear
His 14 karat laugh
Not a day goes by that I don′t hear
His 14 karat laugh

Look at the stars
Look at the reeds
Look at the kids
As they play on the beach
Look at the flowers
Look at the leaves
Look at the bottle
Please don't look at me
Please don′t look at me
