Mourning Doves Songtext

Mourning Doves Songtext
It′s been so long since I've heard the songs I love
My mother′s voice, chickadees at daybreak
Comforts for which I've grown so familiar
If they will not sing, I will not cry
For that's the work of mourning doves
Love meanders, skewering the abyss
Shelter in minutiae, flighty yet stern
When she flees, I cannot clench my fists
Profanities lay inward
Despair big red skies
The slightest indignity
I yield to the eternal labor
The work of the mourning dove
If I wake one day, a bed one half empty
To prepare fires for one
I will despair
And I will sing the song of the mourning dove
My mother′s voice, chickadees at daybreak
Comforts for which I've grown so familiar
If they will not sing, I will not cry
For that's the work of mourning doves
Love meanders, skewering the abyss
Shelter in minutiae, flighty yet stern
When she flees, I cannot clench my fists
Profanities lay inward
Despair big red skies
The slightest indignity
I yield to the eternal labor
The work of the mourning dove
If I wake one day, a bed one half empty
To prepare fires for one
I will despair
And I will sing the song of the mourning dove
