The Game Songtext
von Katy Moffatt

The Game Songtext

There is a man who cares a lot
Fighting fair for all he′s got
Virtue's in the way he holds
So tightly to the life he molds
A woman and a family
He struggles to gain all they need
But something in him longs for more
It twists the knife right to the core

If he could say what yearning is
He works to fill all needs but his
His blind and hard-won pride is chased by shame
Oh, he who learns the rules might lose the game

A woman makes a choice to bend
Gives herself to child and man
Trying hard to understand
How they break and how they mend
But her lips once kissed and read
Are drained of color, dull and dead
She has no time to long for more
But life seems harsh and pleasures poor

If she could say for what she yearns
She works to fill all needs but hers
Chasing by her pride, she′s washed in shame
She followed all the rules and lost the game

Life is rarely what it seems
The dealer's working his own schemes
When chips are down and stakes are up in flames
The one who risks his heart will take the game

Now they've abandoned dreams too wild
Aimed hope on their only child
Who turns against them, runs away
Scornful of the price they pay
So they sit and count their fears
Paupers in their golden years
The demon rears his double head
Shoulda done and shoulda said

Now they know what yearning is
Their work has somehow led to this
And all their earnest pride is chased by shame
They played by all the rules and lost the game
Yeah, their blind and hard-won pride is washed in shame
Oh, he who learns the rules might lose the game
