Downtown Songtext
von Kate Vargas

Cast me in your vintage movie
Set me in the flashback scene
If you want a backlit beauty
watch me from the mezzanine

I know you got an astro blue Skylark
We can take a ride around
Hair up, top down to the rock shop
But don′t, mmm

I told you not to take me downtown, baby
I told you not to take me down
I told you not to take me downtown, baby

Bet you had a sweet little picture
sippin on a long stem dream
Soft box, deep thoughts
Everything that fits your Mary Ann fantasy

But there's a break in the parquet
Take the trapdoor to the underground
You think you know where we′re going
but you don't
I told you not to take me downtown, baby
I told you not to take me down
I told you not to take me downtow,n baby
Are you listening now?

Bulb flash and I'm playing jacks
in the broom closet of Bunga′s Den
with an illusionist and a dustpan and a grown man called Kid
and it is my turn. They keep on saying it′s my turn
and the room is swaying
and my words are getting further
from the part of me that's making the sound
and it gets loud when I realize you′re not by my side
even though we'd tied our shoes together, as not to lose each other
And now I′m barefoot and body-painted and
Kid is chewing on your shoelaces
and why god oh why did you not listen when

I told you not to take me downtown, baby
I told you not to take me down
I told you not to take me downtown, baby
Are you listening now?

I told you not to take me downtown, baby
I told you not to take me down
I told you not to take me downtown, baby
Are you listening now?
