The Way Songtext
von Joshua Thomas

The Way Songtext

He was listening to Jesus
Or someone like that
Maybe a priestess
A thousand years dead

′Love is the answer'
That′s what he said
He left for Ohio
Lover still in his bed

He went missing in the winter
To find a thing called release
While the songs they were singing
Were oddly enough about peace

There's an endless greed for the road
If you wanna go

His highway's a glittering of sorrow along the way

She was partial to December
When the sky turned gray
She used tradition
To get through the day

And whenever her brother
Would call up to say
′How is Carolina?′
She would put it away

And forget about the summer
When the locusts killed the peace
And the sound of her singing
Was a holy breath of release

There's a devil buried deep in the snow
If you wanna know

But maybe tomorrow she′ll be on her way

Now enough about forgiveness
The requirement to be seen
As somebody other
Than who you turned out to be

It's enough to have a kitchen
And a living room
And a brother in Ohio
And a lot of living to do

What time they′re still borrowing will soon be on its way
