I am a cat that walks alone
I have no past and no recall
The daytime passes into dusk
The golden motes of dust still dance
But there′s no living for me here
I must move on, the call is clear
And you won't notice me at all


The night is dark and we′re all grey
A shape that shifts in shadow's play
An eye that gleams and then lets die
The moment's soft as silken down
And you′re not listening, so you can′t hear

And I watch you so carefully
Your tricks and habits I absorb
The way you light a cigarette
The drink, the chat, the pointless play
Your earrings swing and catch the light
My spirit walks in that thin spark


I am a cat that walks alone
I hunt in silence, then I'm gone
My fire burns fierce, but it′s contained
You only thought you caught a glimpse
A trick of light, so hard to say
