I was standing at the station
Ten to midnight in the rain
I was minding my own business
Waiting for the midnight train
Nobody in sight, staring at my shoes
Took out my paper to find some good news
Minding my own business when the ticket man called to me

He said there ain′t no midnight train

So I said, "If it ain't much trouble
Is the local out of town?"
His reply, "2 AM, if I'm leaving local bound
I can catch it in forty minutes
If I want to grab the exit"
But the local trains are hard to come by
This time of night, huh, more or less

I didn′t care where it was going to go
