She tries to fall back asleep
When she wakes from her dreams
So she can carry on living in a world by herself
She mutes her voice to a whisper
Still it sounds like a scream
She′s pressured in her mind for a story to tell

I come in in the evening
Ask her how her day's been
She just rolls her eyes and says "Waitressing sucks"

But at least it's a living
Somehow she cracks a smile and says "Not by much
'Cause everything I want is still so far out of touch"

She don′t wanna be a memory
She don′t wanna be a muse
Oh she knows she's so much more than a name
And a line thrown away just as soon as it′s been used


Don't let her dispositions
Be the first thing to fool you
She knows you want much more than just a peck on the cheek
But by her own admission
She knows that she can play the fool too
She′s been waking up to loneliness and lipstick streaks
With an empty-hearted promise that he's calling next week
