Old Folks Songtext

Old Folks Songtext
Everyone knows him as Old Folks
Like the season he comes and he goes
Just as free as a bird and as good as his word
That′s why we all love him so
Always leaving his spoon in his coffee
Tucks his napkin up under his chin
And his old corncob pipe, it's so mellow, it′s ripe
And we needn't be ashamed of him
Every Friday he goes fishin'
Down by old Buzzard′s Lake
And he comes back with that story
′Bout the one that got away
Guess I'll go warm up the steak
Yes, we all love our Old Folks
Did he fight for the Blue or the Gray?
′Cause he's so democratic and so diplomatic
We always let him have his way
In the evenin′, in the evenin'
People, when the sun goes down, when the sun goes down
What stories he would tell
Like he held the speech for Lincoln at Gettysburg that day
Mhm, I know that one so well
Someday there′ll be no more Old Folks
What a sad world this will be
Little children at play will pause for a day
The day they take Old Folks away
Like the season he comes and he goes
Just as free as a bird and as good as his word
That′s why we all love him so
Always leaving his spoon in his coffee
Tucks his napkin up under his chin
And his old corncob pipe, it's so mellow, it′s ripe
And we needn't be ashamed of him
Every Friday he goes fishin'
Down by old Buzzard′s Lake
And he comes back with that story
′Bout the one that got away
Guess I'll go warm up the steak
Yes, we all love our Old Folks
Did he fight for the Blue or the Gray?
′Cause he's so democratic and so diplomatic
We always let him have his way
In the evenin′, in the evenin'
People, when the sun goes down, when the sun goes down
What stories he would tell
Like he held the speech for Lincoln at Gettysburg that day
Mhm, I know that one so well
Someday there′ll be no more Old Folks
What a sad world this will be
Little children at play will pause for a day
The day they take Old Folks away
