Vicksburg Songtext

Vicksburg Songtext

It was crows in a boneyard, a walking bird
It was twisted tongue talking broken words
It was nothing, nothing was nowhere seen
In the land of Lincoln was a rebel scream
It was a Mississippi river, a river of blood
It was a shit storm in the Vicksburg mud
It was blue and gray, a blind man′s light
White man's burden, black man′s spite
It was over and over, confusion and lies
It was fire and smoke black out the sky

It was Sherman in Georgia, Atlanta in flames
It was soldier boys deaf, crippled and lame
It was war politicians and war profiteers
It was young men dying while the old men cheered
It was brother kill brother and father kill son
It was live by the sword, it was die by the gun
It was a mouth full of grass, it was maggots and flies
A stinking core, a mother's cry
Georgia heat and a freezing cold
It was black folk being bought and sold
