Crystal Spring Songtext

Down by a crystal spring
Where the nightingales do sing
Most pleasant is the season
For to hear them groves ring
Down by the riverside
A young captain I espied
Entreating of his true love
For to be his bride
Dear Phyllis then says he
Oh can you fancy me
And all in your soft bowers
A crown it shall be
For you shall feel no pain
I will you maintain
A ship she has just landed
And just come from Spain
Whenever that you dine
Oh you shall drink wine
And so sweetly in the season
Oh you shall be mine

For like a lady rare
I′ll maintain you so fair
No lady in the navy
With you can compare
There are young men that I know
In kindness they will show
They will offer, they will offer
Much more than they do
For whenever that they find
A young damsel that is kind
Laughing and a chaffing
She will change like the wind
But if ever I prove false
To you my little dove
How the oceans turn to desert
And the elements shall move
For wherever that I be
I'll be constant unto thee
My heart it is no rover
Though I rove on the sea
Down by a crystal spring
Where the nightingales do sing
Most pleasant is the season
For to hear them groves ring
Down by the riverside
A young captain I espied
Entreating of his true love
For to be his bride
