Some Enchanted Evening Songtext
von Howard Keel

Some Enchanted Evening Songtext

Boy, I had a lot of fun, I′ll tell you
The only thing I really regret is the fact I never had the
A chance to do a new show with, uh, Rodgers and Hammerstein
I did have a chance, but I had to turn them down
I just left Oklahoma and London in 1948 and I went back to New York
And they called me in and asked me
To play the part of Lieutenant Cable
A young man in a little musical they were
Putting together called South Pacific
And I had just signed to do Annie
Get Your Gun with Judy Garland at MGM
And I couldn't do it
So I had to turn it down and it′s probably just as well
I didn't do it because they wrote the part for a tenor
And I ain't no tenor, you know
But I′ve gone out and played the other part, you know, the old guy
Wonderful song

Some enchanted evening
You may see a stranger
You may see a stranger
Across a crowded room
And somehow you know
You know even then
That somewhere you′ll see her
Again and again

Some enchanted evening
Someone may be laughing
You may hear her laughing
Across a crowded room
And night after night
As strange as it seems
The sound of her laughter
Will sing in your dreams

Who can explain it?
Who can tell you why?
Fools give you reasons
Wise men never try

Some enchanted evening
When you find your true love
When you feel her call you
Across a crowded room
Then fly to her side
And make her your own
Or all through your life
You may dream all alone

Once you have found her
Never let her go
Once you have found her
Never let her go
