i have a handle on it
every sprawling path
makes its presence felt


i know exactly where i′m going
and exactly where i've been
if i turn back around
i can see my house from here

but a pebble on the path glints just right
draws my eye down into the dirt
what are you made of?
i reach out to touch it

it all goes dark on contact
back to moving by feel
trying to remember
which direction felt like forwards
