As we gather on the pavement when the night comes to its close
There′s a feeling of the end of the season
Underneath the streetlight I catch you crying on your own
You claim for no particular reason
That black cloud over your head leads us home tonight
With your words ringing in my mind

All this madness, all this grace
All the pain in our hearts and the smiles on our faces
This parodic decadence
What are we trying to drink away my friends
And we never really thought that we were doing anything wrong
We just pour another drink and pretend we're still young
While we ask ourselves, "Are we really that alone?"


Next Friday night I hear the bassline from the speakers of their cars
Right outside my window
There′s a party at some old friends of
Mine, I said I'd go but I knew I lied
Cause I can't stand them anymore
I just can′t stand them no more
And now I can′t remember
Who I was before

All this madness, all this grace

We just roll another pill and say, "One more for the road"
While we ask ourselves, "Are we really that alone?"

Is this the way it ends? It is such a different life
Compared to sometime around, oh say 1999
It's like everybody′s gone to live their own lives now
And everybody's got their own ideas about what′s wrong or right
But I'm wishing all of you well
And I guess I′ll be seeing you in heaven or hell
Let's just hope the price for this kind of life
Won't be too much to pay
