The bright lights dimmed and the audience screamed like she′d heard a million times before, and underneath a veil of nicotine, Bennie wondered up and took the floor. The sound grew louder and her head got quiet. She looked into the mouths that roared. Walked stage left down an empty hallway and exited the stadium door.

Weeks went by before Bennie was seen at a table in a small cafe. Wearing dark sunglasses with a mohair jacket and a locket on a silver chain. When somebody yelled, "It's her" and pulled a camera from a leather bag, but Bennie jumped up before her soul got stolen. She put the fella on his back.
