Now some folks will say that I′m lazy
And others will tell you I shirk
But a man gets along just by singing a song
So why in the heck should I work?
'Cause pennies don′t fall from the heavens
Like some people say when it rains
But I sure get my share when the weather is fair
And I holler them cowboy refrains

Now I ain't no pony, I ain't no fool
I never done labor since I went to school
I know I ain′t handsome, my name isn′t Bing
But why should I work when I'm able to sing?


Now a guy says to me in a cafe
I′ll sell you this watch for a zack
I thought it was fine, but did I get time
Yeah, seven days down in the jack
I once met a husky old farmer
He pleaded with me that I stay
He said if you start to sing and play that there thing
You'll scare all them blackbirds away, hee-hee

A rolling stone they say gathers no moss
But a rolling stone don′t have to work for a boss
I know I ain't handsome, my name isn′t Bing
But why should I work when I'm able to sing?

Once I lived up in the mountains
I'd yodel away by the hour
But they drove me away, so I′ve heard people say
′Cause I turned all the milk sour
