Downer Hall Songtext

Gather here you former selves
I′ll tell you how the curtain fell
A bitter night in December
That nobody else remembers

The posters promised names unknown
A line of words that sound good stoned
I followed a group of strangers
I thought it would help my anger

Packed coat to coat
Breathing the steam and smoke
A hole in the wall
We filled up Downer Hall

It once had been a factory
For wiring up the circuitry
But now it was just for dreaming
And different sounds of screaming

I heard of how the moon would crack
The dinosaurs were coming back
Got burned on the radiator
And said I would come back later

Freezing outside
Bathed in the Miller lights
I made a call
And walked 'way from Downer Hall

The penalty for knowing nothing
Is missing out the things you′re judging
And suddenly they have vanished
Like somebody flipped a lightswitch

The years between have not been kind
There's nothing but a For Sale sign
In windows that showed a future
Of victory for the loser

A subzero night
I slide down the sidewalk ice
At the address
There's just a tiny message
The handwriting scrawled
The once future Downer Hall
