The jackal and I took the ride
To where the earth gets the sky
We became lovers out of need
Didn′t trust him, he didn't trust me

Confusion arrived, entertained
Masked the desires, sedate the shame
Failure was our aim all along
To find the world′s saddest song


Then we heard the angel sing
With her broken black wing
As she told me about her fall
We heard the faint clarion call

We moved forward down the road
To the valley of lost souls
Shadows stain the salt-soaked ground
Worn and covered like a burial shroud

Then we heard an orphan sing
He stared straight, wouldn't look at me
As he sang about his loss
We felt salvation's heavy cost


The jackal put a mirror to my face
There stood the one I hate
The jackal was me and I was him
