I know it's not making sense right now
You′ll have to figure it out somehow
Well I can't wait until I get older
I′m scared I'm never getting older

But I can tell you that you′ve gotta just wait it out


When I was growing up, I thought it'd be just like the movies
You're bound to fall in love the day you move into the city
Like I would lock eyes with the rest of my life just down the street
But after half a year of waiting, I′m not feeling quite as pretty
To paraphrase encouragement from all of my dear friends
"Just gotta wait a couple years, then all that loneliness will end"
Which makes me feel just like a child that doesn′t get the story's end
And when I yell out, "I don′t get it!" all they said

There's a paradox I′ve heard of that I can't yet fully see
To find the one that makes you whole, you must first make yourself complete
Well I′ll give the theory credit, but it won't apply to me
Because at the current rate it's hard to practice what I preach
It′s hard to say this all, I feel like I′m a whiny brat
"He's only missing one thing in his life, how fucking sad is that?"
Though the circumstance is different, I still can′t avoid the facts
The only thing I'm hearing when I ask

I kinda feel embarrassed looking at my history
I′ve been watching friends get married at the age of 23
And I've been swiping on some dating app with no consistency
And thinking to myself that maybe I′ll understand it when I'm older
