Clyde Songtext

Clyde Songtext

I left home swearing to myself there ain′t no doubt
Heads for north, tails for south, either way I was getting out
Just enough to fill the tank and a few bucks left for beer
I was too damn angry and I wasn't thinking clear
Well I saw her in the headlights on the very edge of town
I was doing eighty when she turned and flagged me down
She said, "Where you going?" I said, "Anywhere but here"
She said, "Anywhere is fine right now, I need to disappear"

If I wonder why she ran that night, I never thought to ask
We were heading into trouble, we were going there real fast
Two teenage desperados with my foot down on the gas
I was looking for a future, she was running from her past

Her boss had been a bastard, long hours, lousy pay
If he hadn′t tried to touch her, would he be alive today?
She stole some money from the safe and took the old man's gun
She made me an accessory, now we're both on the run

If I wonder why she ran that night, I never thought to ask
We were heading into trouble, we were going there real fast
Two teenage desperados with my foot down on the gas
I was looking for a future, she was running from her past

The paper said a man was dead in a murder robbery
The witness saw a getaway and the driver looked like me
There might be an accomplice, it was way too dark to see
But we got a good description of the car

If I wonder why she ran that night, I never thought to ask
We were heading into trouble, we were going there real fast
Two teenage desperados with my foot down on the gas
I was looking for a future, she was running from her past
If I wonder why she ran that night, I never thought to ask
We were heading into trouble, we were going there real fast
An innocent bystander I was taken for a ride
She said, "My name is Bonnie"
Said, "I guess that makes me Clyde"
