Western Wind Songtext

Western Wind Songtext
I was born on a hardwood floor in the cradle of the Crocus Plains
In the shadow of a grain elevator and the rumble of a diesel train
We′d feel the pressure drop and those clouds would start to roll
Boy we're in for a lot of rain or a Colorado lull
Just east of nowhere and west of something better
We were all gonna get on out of here come first break in the weather
Seemed half the town was cap and gown come the month of June
Some folks left but I guess the rest kept doing what we was doing
When you feel the western wind
You know you′re back home again
It's like an old familiar friend
When you feel the western wind
Well the flood of '97 nearly swallowed my neighborhood
But we didn′t just stand around, we threw sandbags in the cold
We stayed all night and we piled them high and we saved the Davey Farm
Every man, woman, and child walking arm in arm
When you feel the western wind
You know you′re back home again
It's like an old familiar friend
When you feel the western wind
Watching that old river rise
With the fear of God in my eyes
Where I live is where I′ll die
Underneath the western sky
You can hear it when I talk and in every song I sing
You can take me out the prairies but can't take the prairies out of me
So put me in the dirt in a checkered shirt and that′ll suit me fine
And while you're there just say a
Prayer and lift your bottle to the sky
When you feel the western wind
You know you′re back home again
It's like an old familiar friend
When you feel the western wind
Watching that old river rise
With the fear of God in my eyes
Where I live is where I'll die
Underneath the western sky
In the shadow of a grain elevator and the rumble of a diesel train
We′d feel the pressure drop and those clouds would start to roll
Boy we're in for a lot of rain or a Colorado lull
Just east of nowhere and west of something better
