Inner Heart Beat Songtext

Yo, when I was a foetus in my mother′s womb
I felt a heartbeat and then something grew
The timing and pulse like a pumping groove
Running through my soul like a drum on loop
And thus concluded that it added nourishment
To the son of a drummer dad, jazz percussionist
I was loving this, plumping sound
Before she visited the doctor and popped me out
Obnoxious, lout kid, hyperactive
Grabbing my crotch acting like Michael Jackson
Sending everybody to the psychiatrics
For imitated music with a lively passion
My brother and I, we concocted plans
Finding what we could using what's at hand
Stealing kitchenware, setting rock to jam
Hitting ladles and chopsticks and pots and pans
All the tap and the click and the crash
It creates a cacophony of sound
Sending everyone insane with it
Finally we got our first kit

A constant burden, from the first hit
The neighbours complaining, often were pissed
At us making more noise than the Boston Circus
At age five drums consumed the garage
But by six I got an acoustic guitar
And at seven I was learning Stairway to Heaven
Like every other kid, getting lessons with a plectrum
But then at nine, my cousin Brian
Played me a tape of Busta Rhymes
And automatically I was caught up with intrigue
And I bought a Starter cap and I thought I was a G
I started shooting hoops and I wore my baggy jeans
And my Kiwi cuzzie bros taught me more about the beats
I′m thumping my feet all the time of day and
My mother would scream when I'd ride her patience
My brother and me we could drive her crazy
With the cutlery jingle, the diner tables
A flight would take me to a different country
Changing up the way I would live
Abruptly raised to love the change and the shift would come
Australia, a place where the kids are grungy now
Getting rid of precautions at eleven
With the reverend, heavy metal distortion
Cannibal Corpse and aggressive assortments
At the time fit like Jennifer Hawkins
Or flicking a ruler upon any table in high school
Thinking I'm cool, no rules apply, a foolish guy
Abusical hoodlum using up tools to write
Tap the beat upon the seat that I′m sitting in
Continuing to think that it′s sweeter than cinnamon
Repeated it intimately, beginning to see
That I feed the rhythm and beats feeding my inner kid
A journey of learning, the first thing
Empowered by verse hits on beats at thirteen
People weren't keen on what I′m listening to
B-Real from the Hill, Gravedigger and Wu
But when I heard Pharoahe Po drop a flow
It opened up a feeling from long ago

Yo, and then Joe stepped up like a podium medalist
I was secretly blowing up like a Soviet weapon test
Tricks had it like smoke in the Netherlands
We were the dynamic duo giving hope to degenerates
Veterans, we used to rap like Americans
You'd drop a beat and we′d attack like a terrorist
We were venomous, native Australian predators
Making a statement by alienating the relatives
Two of a kind, fluent on the mic
I freestyle so much that I ruin your night
Had it down like I do on the fly, doing it sly
With the mind state tight, do what I like
I hibernated, moved out the hills, I migrated
And I waited for the day to say that you and I made it
Nearly burnt out and the pupils dilated
But I cleaned up that act with a purifying agent
We teamed up, the pact was to rap back and forth
Now the Capricorn cat's got her back with the cause
A jacket, toss, be part of the fam
From these humble beginnings when we started to jam
