I volunteered for my homeland
Got shipped off to some foreign sand
In an effort, to defend our rights of freedom
I′ve served my time, the war's no more
But the memories of that distant shore
Will not listen to a voice of reason

The bullets whizzing by my head
Will the next one find me dead
Every step can be my last
If I trigger a landmine blast
The thumping of the mortar rounds
Drowning out the other sounds
Of random trash, I am aware
Cause IEDs can be anywhere


It′s a constant battle day by day
I keep my horrors all at bay
Maybe with time
My wounds, they will mend
But how can anyone survive

Now I'm back at home in my homeland
My friends and family can't understand
Why my life can′t be as it was before

I′ve lost my job, my kids, my home
My daytime nightmares won't leave me alone
Even now, I′m still fighting this damn war

Begging for the change you spare
Strangers pass without a care
Abusing drugs to keep me sane
Anything to numb my brain
I'm cold and hungry, I′m alone
This empty alley is now my home
Of random trash I am aware
A source of food can be anywhere
