Always on the street and moving on my feet
Then feeling like a king with a basketball in hand
Begging for attention and something I won′t mention is
Nagging at my brain but I don't really understand

What′s going on up there, it's hard to find the words
But it manifests in things like skating, jumping into sand
Sneakers on the pavement, bandaids on my knees
And an incessant need to show the others where I stand

Can you feel the weight of suburbia
Sometimes it stifles, I choke up
But nights like these, with a cool breeze
I'm young and feeling semi-free
In summer, I′ll get out my head
I′ll kiss some girls, I'll make new friends
I′ll try new foods, I'll leave my bed
When school comes I′ll be new again


For the next few months, I've figured out a way to
Prove I′m strong enough for me to make it as a man
Always keep my guard up, cry a little less and
Learn how to say no when someone offers me their hand

Sure, this mindset is a setback, but I want to know that
People put the effort in to see the new me and
Once this break is over, no one has to know
The way I used to look and act and everything I am

The truth is reinvention
Rarely ever happens overnight
Yet the urge I feel to change grows under
Fireworks and waning moonlight


But, I know I′ll still wish
To wake up one day
In a body that knows me
And oh, now that time's passed
I can look back
And realize I′m right where I needed to be

Walking on the same streets, but I'm growing
As I circle the neighborhood, I lay my plans
