Dancing into flight
Teenage June rides fairground horses
Yellow and white
Holds ribboned reigns of silk
Delicately between finger and thumb
And kaleidoscopes her life
Sighing and smiling into summer


Now the year strips to the waist
Roller-coasters time into a spinning
Twisting joyride

Now the bloodrush of July
Pounds into the mind
Beating on the empty drum of the sun
A rhythmic backing for a fool′s gymnastic

The hurdy-gurdy man of summer
Plays his lunatic score
While all the world cavorts a mad ballet
Called August
