Thick as Thieves Songtext
von Danse Macabre

We promised to make a difference, you and I
Both still young, feeling smart
And now in the light of this shaded lamp
I can almost see your smile

We dreamt of travelling land and sea
And thus we did, my friend, you and me
Thick as thieves we were
Thick as thieves we were

Oh, and time was at our side
Well, at least so we believed
One day our nations prepared for a fight
And you and I had to join opposite sides

Never we shall behold the green fields
Or hear the birds sing in May
Our youth, our old age sacrificed
And with our lives we did pay

We dreamt of travelling land and sea
And thus we did, my friend, you and me
Thick as thieves we were
Thick as thieves we were

Dreams shattered in filthy trenches
Our lungs filled with mustard gas
Beneath the grey skies
Of the fields of Flanders
Dreams shattered in filthy trenches
Our lungs filled with mustard gas
Thorns of the cross
Bearing your name in the grass

Oh, and time was at our side
Well, at least so we believed
One day our nations prepared for a fight
Oh, and time was at our side
Well, at least so we believed
And you and I had to join opposite sides

Thick as thieves we were
Thick as thieves we were
Thick as thieves we were
