Yesterday's Memories Songtext
von Daniel O’Donnell

Yesterday's Memories Songtext

They sit all around him
Their eyes all aglow
The old man tells stories
Of days long ago
To them they′re just stories
Of days that have passed
To him they are memories
That always will last

Hey grandpa, please tell us
How you left as a boy
You could see as he thought back
How his heart filled with joy
And even though they knew
The story of old
They sat so attentive
Once more to be told

On a cold winter's morning
We said our goodbyes
To all of our loved ones
With tears in our eyes
She was standing beside me
As I stepped on board
There was no way of knowing
What fate held in store

She was young and so pretty
I can see her so clear
We made plans for the future
For the life we′d have here
Where she was things seemed better
There was always a smile
And time seemed to stand still
For us for a while

But our dreams and our plans
They were shattered one day
You see God's plan was different
'Cause he took her away

I can still hear her laughter
As it echoes on through
′Cause she left me your mother
And now I have you

Now the story is over
The kids run and play
The old man he sits there
His mind drifts away
′Cause he knows that she's waiting
On a far distant shore
Where their dreams and their plans
Will be theirs evermore
