On a cold dark night, way back in the pines
Big John met his woman, down at the river line
Becca knew what was coming, she wasn′t unaware
For she hadn't been faithful to Big John
And he was gonna take her life there

Big John pulled out his dagger, he held it in his right hand
He then placed it in Becca′s heart for loving another man
Bloody Becca hit the ground, she then began to cry
And in her final dying words to Big John she did reply

Remember me when your nights are long and cold
Remember me when you're out there all alone
I don't regret a thing I did, I′ll never reach for your hand
Big John you′re gonna pay the price to die a wanted man


Big John got caught by the lawman in the bordering town
He's scheduled for to hang him high until the people gather ′round
Big John knew his life was over as the noose went 'round his head
And in his final moments there these were the words he said

Well they buried Big John back in the
Pines where the murder had took place
You can feel the eerie touch of death as you stand around his grave
Some say that on cold dark nights even though Big John is dead
You can still hear the lonesome dead man
Moan the words that his tombstone read
