She came into the village
A tear rolling down her face
No-one seemed to see her
Or the sadness in her grace
She walked through the Main Street
Not stopping or looking back
Heading to the forest
On the old, abandoned track


I woke up in the morning
To the sound of a gun
Looking out I saw her
White dress shone in the sun
She beckoned me to follow
I followed where she led
Then I saw her white dress stained
From a wound in her head

She led me to an old rowan tree
Overgrown, covered ground
Underneath I could see quite clearly
The outline of long disturbed ground

A breeze swept through the forest
It chilled me to the bone
I turned but she had vanished
I stood there all alone
The wind had blown some leaves away
From near a rowan bole
Secrets of the past revealed
The skull with a bullet hole


I didn′t know the woman
Or from where she came
She was a long-lost soul
Now she can rest again
