I bought this flattop in ′72
It's been here for me through all I do
Longer than lovers, best friends and wives
I swear this flattop has changed my life

I brought the action, I changed the strings
I make it shuffle, I make it swing
On endless highways, trains, planes and ships
Me and this flattop joined at the hip


There have been others along the way
Some disappeared, some wouldn′t play
For inspiration I always turn
To this old flattop on which I learned

Me and my flattop, we've seen it all
Stalybridge platform, the Albert Hall
Hotels and nightclubs, pubs and dive bars
Me and this flattop make out like stars

There is a vision I sometimes see
A generation strumming a D
Angst-ridden boys, well-uptight girls
Ten zillion flattops will rule the world
