The Last First Day Songtext
von Chubb+Bits

New backpack by the door, the tag still on the strap
You′re counting down the hours, I'm counting backward
Last summer felt like minutes, last year like a day
And here you are again already on your way

I take a photo, you roll your eyes
But humor me, just one more time

This is the last first day
Of who you are at this age anyway
Next year you′ll be someone new
And I'll be letting go of you again
The last first day

The bus will come at seven forty-three
You'll wave and disappear from me
I′ll stand here longer than I should
Pretending this is all just fine, the way a parent would

I take a photo, you roll your eyes
But one day you′ll be glad, you'll realize

This is the last first day
Of who you are at this age anyway
Next year you′ll be someone new
And I'll be letting go of you again
The last first day

Every September comes and I try to hold the feeling
Every autumn leaf reminds me what I′m leaving
Not a person, just a phase
But I'll miss this version all my days

Last first day
Go on, go on
Last first day
I′ll be right here when the day is done
