She Learned It From Her Mother Songtext
von Chubb+Bits

She keeps the recipes in a tin box
Handwritten in her mother′s hand
Flour-dusted, coffee-stained
The oldest thing she owns in this land

And I watch her in the kitchen
And I see the chain of women

She learned it from her mother
Who learned it from hers before
Every way she loves us
Came through somebody's door
The kindness and the cooking
The grace she shows in hard times too
She learned it from her mother
And I′m learning it from you

She hums the same song her mama hummed
When things were getting rough
She says the words her grandmother said
When love alone is not enough

And I watch her in the kitchen
And I see the chain of women

She learned it from her mother
Who learned it from hers before
Every way she loves us
Came through somebody's door
The kindness and the cooking
The grace she shows in hard times too
She learned it from her mother
And I'm learning it from you

And someday I′ll pass it on
The way they passed it to me
The best of all these women
Living on in who I′ll be

She learned it from her mother
And I'm learning it from you
Learning it from you
