Sucker Songtext

Sucker Songtext

Can′t live without it
But I'll have to
You paint it darker
I bring the pain, I know
How to conjure
How to cajole
But I can′t sustain this feeling

It's like I'm under your tongue
Dissolving slowly
Like my spine stepped out for air
Never to return
The absentee limb, I feel my work begin
Without me
There′s a word for that
Sucker

There′s no way 'round it
There′s only through
You burn a hole
Through the mountain of sugar cubes
On the diner counter
If looks could kill
I'd be a goner by now

It′s like a flood of molasses
To fight it
Waist high, in the street
Burying every living thing
Until all that's left is shapes, and signs of struggle
Flypaper coated in pain
There′s that word again
Sucker

The warning rang out
It wasn't subtle
Close to midnight
Shook like a shuttle
Passing through my frontal lobe
And parting the sea

And when you came to
Broke like the dawn
Over the choice to do nothing at all

It's like the deck chairs were put out
For the iceberg
Tuck the passengers out of sight and into bed
The only growth that counts
Is that which can be measured
There′s a word for that
Sucker

Well I can whistle
But I can′t cheer
Guess I'm not welcome here
