The words don′t mean shit to me
This life don't give no guarantees
Time don′t wait, it just rolls on by
So I live my truth and let things ride

I made mistakes, I've done my time
Lost a few things I used to call mine
But I learned to love, I learned to fight
And I still sleep just fine at night


So pour that drink for the folks like us
We've been knocked down, but we still get up
We do our best, we take our hits
And learn what freedom really is

Some folks talk, some just fade away
I ain′t got time for the games they play
I keep my word, I keep my peace
Let the noise die down, let my mind breathe

I don′t need fame, I don't need praise
Just a few good years and better days
If the good Lord′s watching, I hope He sees
A man just trying to live and be free
