When I Grow Up Songtext
von Burnside Project

When I Grow Up Songtext

When I grow up, I want to be
An astronaut, plant my flag on MTV
An international incident expert and specialist
A consultant to the New York Times
I want to refine my social skills
And plan the policemen′s ball
Or moderate focused groups
Resuscitate plants that droop
Work in the offices of CNN or Q
I'll be the third journalist who gets the scoop

When I grow up, I want to be

The first female president of the United States
Or dedicate my life to someone else′s cause
Or evaluate the flaws
Of the judicial system in every state of the union
Or just pack my bags and move to the Soviet Union
Or study the effects of cosmic radiation
Or improve reading skills on the children of our nation

Master my electric skills to become an engineer
Or an air traffic controller who decides when it's all clear
A tow truck driver, a deep sea diver
I want to work the late shift, I'm not a nine-to-fiver
I want to be the one to help revive her
′Cause I′m a genius, just like MacGyver

When I grow up, I want to be

An aviation specialist or a fireman or woman
Depending on what my gender is
I want to be the first person to climb the highest mountain
Develop filtering technology for a gutter water fountain
Play guitar in a rock and roll band
Scribble mad poetry on the back of my hand
Or supervise a gubernatorial election

Work in the offices of spy detection
Or stay at home and raise my kids
Try something that my parents never did
Work with my hands, make repairs in a building

Or be a foreman at a site of oil drilling

Or a migrant farm worker, a fugitive from justice
A cook for vegetarians, or the guy on Cops Will Bust Us
Or move to Rome and change my name to Augustus
Or congratulate the ones who trust us
