Going North Songtext

Going North Songtext

Last night I got a letter
From a friend who was a singer
Said come and work the trawlers
Come and get away
Things up here are better
Just taste the life I′m living
You will never want to leave
The salt sea spray

So I sat there in the kitchen
Down here in the south
Looking down at his letter
And down at the mouth
The TV news was blaring
The weather girl's insane
This town was getting tougher
They′re boarding up the windows on the trains

It seems I keep on buying
Things that I don't need
Not realizing what I'm doing
To myself
I′m too scared of being lonely
Too scared of being bored
Too scared to take my chances
Going north

So I sat there in the kitchen
Down here in the south
Looking down at his letter
And down at the mouth
The TV news was blaring
The weather girl said rain
This town was getting tougher
I′m jumping on the very next train
