Different Drummer Songtext

Born on a black monday, me mother screaming curses
Me out in the pub, losing money on the horses
Me granny kicked in the door, said "get a job you bastard"
And I came rolling into the world a walking, talking disaster

With the toot on the flute and the twiddle on the fiddle-oh
Music in me soul and the beat on me boom box
So up, down, turn around, crash into the wall
Dancing to the beat of me own different drum roll

At the age of sixteen years I was apprenticed to a grocer
They never knew me name, all they wanted was "yes" or "no sir"
So I bought a cheap guitar, learned to write me poetry
And me and rock ′n' roll set off to see the country, oh
We played in pubs and dancehalls, even played in brothels
I learned all about the good life through the arse end of a bottle
I learned about love from many′s the fine lady
But I was always searching for me one true darling baby

With the toot on the flute and the twiddle on the fiddle-oh
Music in me soul and the beat on me boom box
So up, down, turn around, crash into the wall
Dancing to the beat of me own different drum roll

Oh, I searched from coast to coast, from Florida to Canada
Me heart upon me sleeve, screaming out "oh, where are ya?"
Till I wound up with a six-foot girl on the south side of Chicago
Turned out she was a man, oh can you imagine the disaster?
The sweetest girl of all is in the state of California
Ah, she threw me on the bed and kept me rocking till the morning
Till the dawn came crashing in, in the midst of me shenanigans
Her husband beat me up so bad, I'll never get it up again

With the toot on the flute and the twiddle on the fiddle-oh
Music in me soul and the beat on me boom box
So up, down, turn around, crash into the wall
Dancing to the beat of me own different drum roll

Oh, I'm going back to Brooklyn, me tail between me legs, oh
I′m giving up this rock ′n' roll, it′s just far too dangerous work, oh
Stay at your steady jobs me boys, get married, have babies
And keep the hell away from them California ladies

With the toot on the flute and the twiddle on the fiddle-oh
Music in me soul and the beat on me boom box
So up, down, turn around, crash into the wall
Dancing to the beat of me own different drum roll
