Tom Dooley Songtext

Tom Dooley Songtext
Here′s one called 'Tom Dooley′
One, two, three, and
Yeah
A-hang your head, Tom Dooley, hang your head and cry
You killed little Laurie Foster and you know you're bound to die
You left her by the roadside where you begged to be excused
You left her by the roadside, then you hid her clothes and shoes
Hang your head, Tom Dooley, hang your head and cry
You killed little Laurie Foster and you know you're bound to die
You took her on the hillside for to make her your wife
You took her on the hillside and there, you took her life
You dug the grave four feet long and you dug it three feet deep
And you rolled the cold clay over her and tromped it with your feet
Hang your head, Tom Dooley, hang your head and cry
You killed little Laurie Foster and you know you′re bound to die
Trouble, oh, it′s trouble tust a-rollin' through my breast
As long as I′m a-livin', boys, they ain′t a-gonna let me rest
You can take down my old violin and play it all you please
At this time tomorrow, boys it'll be of no use to me
Hang your head, Tom Dooley, hang your head and cry
You killed little Laurie Foster and you know you′re bound to die
And this world and one more then reckon where I'll be
If it wasn't for Sheriff Grayson, I′d been in Tennessee
I know they′re gonna hang me, well tomorrow, I'll be dead
Although I never harmed a hair on poor little Laurie′s head
Hang your head, Tom Dooley, hang your head and cry
You killed little Laurie Foster and you know you're bound to die
Thank you
All thanks
As Billy said, we′re so thrilled to be up here picking this stuff
I mean, he and I get together, again, like I said we'll do this no matter what
Uh, we′ve been talking about, we played a gig at Station Inn a few years ago
Actually, for me, it was like the last thing I did before the old COVID show
That was a long time ago, I think my hair's been short and long again since then
Mine was a little darker back then
But we've always talked about trying to find another opportunity to get together and play, and, and
Thanks to the Legion for hosting this and letting us come up here
These folks, uh, here do a fine work to kind of help promote causes of veterans, you know, in our area
But also support a lot of good local music and a bluegrass jam on Wednesday night
It′s a sweet spot, feels great to be here
Uh, we′re going to get stuff going here, uh, here's another tune
One of my favorite Doc Watson records is the Southbound record
It′s just, so, so warm sounding and uh
It's just Doc and Merle and, and uh, a bass player
Can′t get enough of that, so here's one off of that old Carter family tune
