GUESS I'LL DIE Songtext
A government that would rather I die
Than fund the services I need to live
Instead pushing the narrative
That I′m lazy with nothing to give
Been decades trying to work through all of this
And I've watched it the entire time devolving into carnage
Watched nurses stick around after shifts
Because they knew we weren′t safe in the hands of strangers
Watching them eventually forced to quit
Because they couldn't afford to stay there
Been years since I was discharged
When I ask for notes the request gets shelved
In my search found out the hospital closed
After a 14 year old killed himself
The worst part about it was when I saw it
I thought it was only a matter of time
We wouldn't be checked on for hours
Any of us could′ve been the one who′d died
Years later I'm waiting months to see someone
Who counters my pain with doubt
And I′m left to myself
Watching my body slowly giving out
I've found that if I want to be listened to
I have to bring a man every time
And when I′m seeing my cardiologist
My plus one's the only one he′ll look in the eye
Hoping that something gets done
So I can live and not just survive
And if it turns out to be something more dire
Then I guess I'll just fucking die
They've taken the clocks
They′ve taken the toilet seats
They′ve taken my laces
They've taken the batteries
They′ve taken the remote
They've taken my room key
They′ve taken half the doors
They've taken down my calories
They′re taking my life
I've lost half my memories
They're wasting my time
Left in my suffering
They′re brushing me off
My body′s collapsing
They're trying their best
They′ve lost all their funding
Than fund the services I need to live
Instead pushing the narrative
That I′m lazy with nothing to give
Been decades trying to work through all of this
And I've watched it the entire time devolving into carnage
Watched nurses stick around after shifts
Because they knew we weren′t safe in the hands of strangers
