Ellen grew a beard
And as soon as it appeared,
Her father was elated
In fact, he loudly stated, "I′ve always wanted a son
And now I guess I have one.
It would not be a bother."
I guess that's the attitude of some fathers.


Now Ellen′s friends all turned their backs; not the right way to react
For a friendship is a friendship and inherit in that pact
Is sticking through the times that are rough
And all that idealistic stuff.
I guess that's the way that some things go:
We ignore what we don't want to know although
The point that I′d like to instill
Is I doubt that Ellen will
