Slowin' Down Songtext

Slowin' Down Songtext

Slowing down to see what Mother Nature′s putting down
Chugging right along between every little town
That old rattle trap of mine gets noisy when you speed
And the wind comes 'round the windows and puts out my devil weed
Slowing down to see the pretty flowers on my way
I see a thousand daisies that were not there yesterday
And why would they be growing there if not for you and me?
What good is a flower when there′s no one there to see?

Turn off your air conditioner and breathe a little air
Let the balmy breezes come inside and mess your hair
The people passing you all get a gallon to the mile
They miss out on the sights that you are seeing all the while
Well, I'm slowing down to see what Mother Nature's putting down
Chugging right along between every little town
I get an easy feeling that reminds me who I am
I think of Georgia pines and cotton fields in Alabam′

Now, interstates are great to get you where you want to go
With passing lanes and turning lanes to make the traffic flow
At ninety miles an hour people disregard the cost
Of getting where they′re going looking up someone's exhaust
Just give me a country road beside a little brook
And if the spirit moves me, I can stop and what I′ll cook
If we keep on progressing, pretty soon all you will see
Is lots of fancy freeways where the country used to be

So I'm slowing down to see it while it all still looks that way
When it becomes a turnpike, we′ll just dream of yesterday
And talk of folks who are more concerned
With getting where they're bound
Than slowing up to see what Mother Nature′s putting down
