Master Narrative Songtext

Master Narrative Songtext

I hear him on the radio talking
I watch him on the TV news
Some people tell me he′s a popular fella
Some people say they disapprove

On the surface, he's an intellectual
On the surface, he′s a leader of men
I really want to get to know him better
I really want to be his friend

He isn't left, he isn't right
There′s no one specific in my mind
He′s a preacher to the choir
He's a cheater, he′s a liar
And we hate him like nobody does
We love him

All he wants is a master narrative
Something on which he can rely
And build his life around
He took a look at religion
And bits of conflicting political thinking
For all it's worth
And now he′s one stop on the train
From his heaven on earth
From his heaven on earth
From his heaven on, heaven on, heaven on earth

I tell you what I think, he's really not worth much
More than the price of a ticket to the circus
But I find no one likes a visit to the circus
Like I do

He isn′t left, he isn't right
There's no one specific in my mind
He′s a preacher to the choir
He′s a cheater, he's a liar
And we hate him like nobody does
We love him

All he wants is a master narrative
Something on which he can rely
And build his life around
He took a look at religion
And bits of conflicting political thinking
For all that it′s worth
And now he's one stop on the train (One stop on the train)
One stop on the train (One stop, one stop)
One stop on the train
From his heaven on earth

Pardon me, boy (Take me to your heaven on earth)
Is that the Chattanooga choo choo? (Take me to your heaven on earth)
Can you afford (Take me to your heaven on earth)
To board the Chattanooga choo choo? (Take me to your heaven on earth)
Pardon me, boy
Is that the Chattanooga choo choo?
Is that the Chattanooga choo choo?
Heaven on, heaven on earth
